For me this was one of the most impressive natural views in Japan! I love the coast of the Japanese Sea especially because I had the feeling that it isn't as artificial as most of the eastern Japan coastlines, and those cliffs are the best example! You can climb on them for free, but be aware that there are no safety railings or anything else to prevent you from falling, so be careful! There are some tourists, but by far not as many as at famous temples or more well known tourist spots. And since the cliffs are really vast as well you can easily find a spot where you can take great pictures. They also offer boat-tours so that you can view the cliffs from the sea. Some restaurants and shops next to the cliffs offer fresh seafood. And if you don't mind a walk of about 3 km, you can also visit the nearby O Island (雄島) . There are even less tourists, and you can get to this small island via a beautiful bridge and wander through pure nature and experience impressive and slightly different rock formations!

It’s a very beautiful setting, peaceful at the same time, with fewer tourists, very nice shops, and some cafes. I hope they maintain it like that. The views of the Sea of Japan are absolutely stunning. The nearby area has a beach, beautiful scenery, and many trees. Next time I hope to stay overnight in one of the hotels I saw around there.
