We visited during the winter and it was most impressive, despite the water more or less being frozen. There are various lookout points to help visitors catch different views. If you have very young children, they 'may' be afraid of the dark tunnel that leads to the observation decks but otherwise, you should be fine with children. Very much looking forward to visiting the falls again during the different seasons.

I visited the falls on my very first trip to Japan and it was the very first nature spot I ever visited in Japan. I was awed. We visited in Autumn so the scenery was particularly stunning, but it is a nice place to visit anytime of the year. We found it relatively easy to commute to by public transport, but a lot of walking involved so comfortable shoes are advised.
