I love this place! Aso station is so cute with its small market hat sells regional products. Aso is famous for dairy products and I never had milk and pudding like that before! Also, a bus takes you right to Mt. Aso from there. Due to volcanic activity, you cannot go all the way, but there are still many beautiful hiking trails around that make the trip totally worth it.

Amazing and unique landscape! Around the vulcanic areas the vegetation consists mostly of high grass and no trees and you almost feel like on a different planet or time, especially when ash clouds rise from the active vulcanoes into a clear blue sky. If you have the chance, try to cycle (might be challenging though!) or go there by motorbike! The winding mountain roads are just perfect for that!
