Yamadera is unique temple located on a high mountain, so it takes about an hour to reach the top. On the way there are many sculptures and very old gravestones, niches in rocks for meditation and temple building made of wood. The view from the top is breathtaking especially on a good clear day. Yamadera is unique by its connection with nature surroundings and is worth of al the efforts to climb it!

I had the pleasure of visiting this temple several years ago during the autumn and was amazed by the vibrant colors which surrounded me from all directions. As the name suggests, this temple is based at the top of a mountain so a long walk is required to get to the top. However, the views from the top are well worth it. A truly magical place if you time it right!

Really beautiful, the view from the top is nice. Absolutely worth a day trip from Sendai.
