If you've ever brushed up on a few Japanese phrases before a trip, there's a good chance Duolingo helped you do it. This December, the beloved language-learning app is stepping off your phone screen and into Tokyo with DUOMART, a convenience store–style pop-up event in the heart of Shibuya. It's perfectly timed for inbound travelers who will be exploring Japan during the festive season.

Running from December 18th to December 30th 2025, DUOMART is Duolingo's first-ever pop-up store in Japan, located at OPENBASE SHIBUYA. Inspired by Japan's ubiquitous konbini culture, the concept blends two things travelers know well: an app you can use anytime, anywhere, and a convenience store you can drop into on the go.

Inside, visitors will find a lineup of limited-edition merchandise featuring Duolingo's cast of characters, including the unmistakable green owl Duo, the deadpan Lily, and Oscar the chess-loving instructor.

There's also a free activity available where guests can print a complimentary Duolingo character coloring book on-site (limited to one per person), plus try their luck at a convenience-store-style lottery with prizes like plush toys and stickers.

Shoppers who spend 3,300 JPY or more receive a gacha-style trading card (14 designs, including rare editions), and those who purchase items can even take a commemorative photo with Duo or Lily. It makes for a fun souvenir for fans who studied hard before landing in Japan.
